Rolling Stone

We saw the movie 'Milk' last weekend (finally) and yesterday a co-worker let me borrow her February 19th edition of Rolling Stone magazine. The cover article is an interview with Sean Penn.

I found the interview interesting and I absorbed the information I learned about Sean Penn the actor and the man.

He's right, Obama isn't the "savior'. We ALL must be doing what we can to right our economy and our world. I know I'm not doing my part and I feel kicked in a butt change my behaviors.

I need to recycle more, buy less, waste less, eat less, and care more. Care about our country, the people around me, my neighbors, my co-workers, my friends and the people I encounter that remain nameless on a daily basis.

I have thought a lot since watching the movie last weekend that we are left without a real voice in the gay community. Would prop-8 have passed if Harvey Milk were still alive? Who knows really but we all could have done more.

The interesting point Penn makes though is about AIDS. Harvey Milk was a loud political voice int he gay community and for decades our politicians turned a blind eye to the disease. How many lives were lost because we didn't give this epedemic the attention it still needs.

We should be pouring money into research and finding cures for diseases like Parkinson's, cancer (all types) and AIDS. Obama's position on stem-cell research, while it stirs up a lot of religious outcry, is admirable and comes an administration too late but the opportunities are so tremendous.

As we continue each day to strive to be better people, we should be looking for ways we can make other people's lives better also. Be a voice in your community, give to research causes and recycle
