Responsibility
When I was a kid, I remember asking my parents if I could fly. Mom turned around and asked me if I really thought I could. It was in that tone of "Do you seriously think you can fly?"
I told her I wasn't sure so she let me climb on top of my bed where I stood as she helped me think thru the consequences. An interesting word huh.....consequences. She asked me "Well what would happen if you COULDN'T fly?" I realized that I would go SPLAT on the floor of my bedroom and that would likely hurt. Now, if I could fly, that would have been cool, but it was there, 3 feet above my bedroom carpet that my mom taught me a lesson about consequences. There is a cause an effect for EVERY decision.
I was reading CNN.com today...a story about Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16 year old sister of Britney Spears, announcing she is pregnant. Here is a quote from the article:
"It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected," she said. "I was in complete and total shock and so was he."
so, allow me to vent.....
She just had SEX and she is SHOCKED? GET REAL! WAKE UP!!!!!!
When you are in a position where people look up to you, whether you asked to be in that position or not, there is a social responsibility that goes with the part. Jamie Lynn is a TV star on a children's TV Network. When she took the job, she put herself in a place of social responsibility. Kids look up to her and now she leaves the impression that this is ok.
I was a child of social irresponsiblity. I was the result of the same "Oooops moment". Spears says in the CNN.com article that she will return to Louisiana to raise the child in a normal family environment. Yeah right!
At some point and time, we need to wake up and collectively realize that we are responsible for our own actions but those actions do have an effect on other people. Responsibility is a big word. I guess at 16 years of age, Jamie Lynn has yet to figure it out.....but yet she will bring another piece of white trash into the world. Wonderful!
